Hi Everyone

Been having issues with the above software and it flagging certain sites as malicious activity. First AVG started and everytime I went to www.sportsnet.ca AVG would pop up saying stopped incoming connection due to URL scam.. It's a secured sports media website so that makes no sense. Eventually after a week it stopped.

Then Malawarebytes started. I recently went to Ticketmaster and clicked on 2 different links (Snoop Dogg and Live Nation) and Malawarebytes browser guard kicked in saying it stopped the connection due to malicious activity but due to AVG problem I continued on to the page.

I did a deep scan with both softwares and they found nothing. However it seems mighty convenient that my PC seems sluggish now so i have no idea. I tried posting on a Facebook page for PC repair and I got a cheeky answer saying that well that's what the software is supposed to do. Okay thanks tips but why is it it doing it. I'm not going to Xxxvideo.com for example and hoping to fill my computer with every virus out there.

Any help to get this issue resolved would be great.

Hasn't slow and sluggish been a defining feature of Norton for 40 years? While products from companies they buy may well continue to work well for awhile (like Ghost), eventually they either get redesigned to reflect the corporate philosophy of all the CPU cycles all of the time, or else discontinued like PartitionMagic or pcAnywhere or WinFax.

It's been a couple years since Norton bought Avast and thus AVG and CCleaner. And a few years since they bought Avira.

I wasn't aware that Norton bought Avast, but that might explain the problems I was having with networking with AVG until I finally gave up and went with Bitdefender. I had issues with Malwarbytes too, but still use it occasionally. I don't have it on the PC, but I will install it a couple times a year to do scans on my PCs because I still own a lifetime membership to it. It never finds anything tho, so its probably useless now.

In response to the OP, it sounds like you're having similar issues to my networking problems. AVG, I think, was identifying the other PC's on my network as some kind of threat, despite all being listed as on a private network. With their new UI, I couldn't find anything that would address the issue. The other PC's saw the one I was using as a server, but the server PC with the AVG would ultimately disallow any connection I could make with the other PC's. I got deep in there and it became so frustrating - even after using their online help desk, that I finally just sent them an email to cancel the remainder of my subscription.

There are, btw, tons of posts about MB and AVG not working well together. Not sure if it got better with Norton taking over, but there were certain settings I had to turn off in MB so it wouldn't bug me all the time about stuff AVG or Windows wanted to do. Google conflicts with AVG and MB...

Believe me when I tell you, I did a lot of useless reloading of software, clean windows installs, and digging in the AVG program that I was just exhausted by the effort and gave up. I couldn't be happier with Bitdefender. Everything works, including the networking, seamlessly.

If I recall I think avast had bought out avg previously. So I guess Norton owns both of them. But Norton aka Symantec is I recall is owned by Broadcom.

Malwarebytes used to be decent but started becoming annoying trying to take too much control of the pc. Anymore on my personal pc I just use windows defender. It works and stays out of my hair.

Yes , i use it. I stick to most of the standard settings.
Tracking. That should be how the uninitiated should use as well. I assume the UI picks up the default config from Defender upon installation.

This app could be very bad in the hands of someone who "knows better" or is trying to eek out one more FPS while increasing their vulnerability.

I can also see where you could lock Defender down too much. I assume there is a "return to default" switch.
