I cannot live without the Taskbar, I use it too often. Yet a couple of buddies are quite happy to have it hidden until they need it. They say it removes a distraction and lets them use all their screen real estate for the task at hand. If you’re like them and want to auto-hide the Taskbar in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, here is how you do it.
Auto-hide the Taskbar in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update
The method hasn’t changed with the Anniversary Update so if you knew how to do it before, it is exactly the same now. If you don’t know how to do it…
1. Right click on an empty section of the Taskbar.
2. Click Settings.
3. Select ‘Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode’ and toggle it to on.
As you would expect, select desktop mode if you’re using a standard PC and tablet mode if you’re using something with touch. Select them both if you’re not sure.
Now, the Taskbar should slide smoothly to the edge of the screen and disappear. Hover your mouse over the edge where it usually lives and it should slide smoothly back into place. Click whatever you need to click and it will work as normal. Then once you move the mouse away, the Taskbar disappears.
If you want to bring the Taskbar back, just reverse the process.
1. Right click on an empty section of the Taskbar.
2. Click Settings.
3. Select ‘Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode’ and toggle it to off.
