Remember that last boss and and thinking you've got this? It's not so hard? Welcome to the real world, this guy is going to smack you down hard if you go in thinking this is going to be like your first boss fight.

Step 1)Learn his moves.
He's got a few tricks up his armored sleeves, what you are looking to learn is how he moves when he is winding up to strike. That'll be your queue to move. He has a few swipe attacks and a quick dashing move that he'll use to put distance between you. When he wants to get in close he'll dash towards you as well, and if you get in behind him he will use a spin attack to turn and face you quickly.

Step 2)Capitalize on his range.
He only has one long range attack, but because he can cover distance quickly, it is actually better to stay in close to him than to try and keep your distance. Don't try and get behind him, or he'll spin. Instead, get right up in his face. That's right, in range of all his attacks. This is why you need to know them and see them coming.

Step 3)When you see him getting ready, dodge!
Specially, dodge by rolling towards him. You're right in his face, so a dodge towards him is going to bring you under and behind him. If you are quick enough and your timing is right, you can take a swing or two at him here before you get back into position right in his face. Keep this up and you'll get him down to half health, where he'll start stage two, where the real fun begins.

Step 4)Keep it up and bring him down.
In this form, he's almost the exact same so you can keep up the same tactics to wear him down. The only two notable differences is that he has a frost attack, which helps you more than anything as it takes him a while to ready it, and he is quicker. Much quicker. It may be in your best interested to play more defensively here and watch for that breath attack to get some strikes in when you can slip behind him when he uses it.

If you manage to bring him down, give yourself a pat on the back, you've defeated your first real boss in Dark souls. Praise the sun and continue on, more challenges await you.
