Starting with Windows 7, Microsoft has decided to move the color bit (16bit or 32bit) from its original location as they probably thought, no one will ever use it. This does not mean they removed it, it's still there, just placed somewhere else.
Original location, color bits under Windows Me
This applies to Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1
Operating System used for this tutorial is Windows 8.1
1. Right click on the desktop, a menu will appear, click on Screen Resolutions
2. The Screen Resolution properties will open up. Next click on Advanced Settings.
3. On the top, make sure the Adapter Tab is selected, then at the bottom, click on List All Modes
4. From here, select the color mode (bit) you want and click OK.
