How to Change Your Email in Windows 8/Windows 8.1?

Since Windows 8/Windows 8.1 also allows you to use your Microsoft registered email account to log on to the operating system, there might be times when you want to change the registered email, and use another mail address to log on to the OS.

Although there are more than one ways to get the job done, the simplest way is to convert your current Microsoft account that you used to logon to the operating system to the local account, and then again upgrade the local account to the Microsoft online user account using the new email address.

The entire process sounds a bit tricky, but it is very easy and straightforward. Here is how you can change your email address in Windows 8/Windows 8.1:

■Log on to the Windows 8/Windows 8.1 using the account email address of which you want to change.
■From the Start screen, hover mouse to the bottom right corner of the window.
■From the displayed Charms bar, click Settings.

■On the opened Settings pane in the right, click Change PC settings from the bottom.

■On the opened PC settings window, from the left pane, click to select the Accounts category.
■On the Accounts window that opens up, make sure that the Your account category is selected from the left pane.

■From the right pane, click the Disconnect option right under the email account that is registered to log on to the Windows.
■On the Switch to local account window, in the Current password field, type the current password that you use to log on.

■Click Next, and in the next window, type and retype the new password along with the password hint, and click Next.

10. On the next window, click the Sign out and finish button to proceed.

11. Once you are signed out, re-login to Windows 8/Windows 8.1 using the new password. (Remember that you will be logged on locally and not using the registered email account.)
12. After logging on, follow the steps from 2 to 6 in order to go to the Accounts window.
13. Ensure that the Your account category is selected, and from the right pane, click Connect to a Microsoft account.

14. On the Switch to a Microsoft account on this PC window, in the Current password field, type the current password for the local account.

15. Click Next to continue.
16. On the Sign in to your Microsoft account window, provide the new email address and its password that you want to use to sign in while using Windows 8/Windows 8.1, and click Next to proceed. Alternatively you can also click Create a new account under the Don’t have an account option from the bottom of the window to create a new Microsoft account to sign in, and follow on-screen instructions to register the account with Windows 8/Windows 8.1 PC that you are using.
