Let us begin by checking for driver issues and errors. Then we can move on to Windows file integrity.
1. Type or paste ‘event’ into the Search Windows box.
2. Select Windows Logs from the left pane and check Application and System logs.
3. Address any issues you see until error logs stop appearing.
4. Right click the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
5. Check for yellow warning triangles or red warnings next to devices and address them.
6. Upgrade all major device drivers such as graphics, sound, network and motherboard as appropriate.
7. Open a CMD window as an administrator.
8. Type or paste ‘sfc /scannow’. Let the process complete.
9. Let the process fix and corruptions or issues it finds and confirm any changes it might need.
10. Check event viewer once more for any new errors caused by these checks and repeat steps 1-3 if any new errors appear.
There is no such thing as a completely error free computer, but if no new or major errors appear it will be safe to proceed. Now you can perform the Windows 10 Anniversary Update from Windows Update in the Settings menu.
