How to Create and Use Windows 10 Password Reset Disk

If you have a local user account on Windows 10, it’s not a bad idea to have a password reset disk just in case you lose access to your account.

A password reset disk is a USB drive that contains your account information and password. You use the password reset disk to reset your Windows password when you forget it and can’t access your account.

Creating a password reset disk is a proactive step to take when you are able to log on to your user account. After creating the reset disk, keep it in a safe place to use if you forget your password.

Note: Password reset disks in Windows 10 can be created only for local accounts. To reset the password for your Microsoft account, you must go to the Forgot my password link available on the Microsoft’s site’s login page.
