Be it caught in a fire fight, or just looking to sneak past that group of enemies, you're going to need to learn how to use cover to your advantage in order to get through the game.
Step 1)Learn how to take cover in the first place.
During the first mission of the game, you are going to be met with a few tutorial options where you can practice these skills. To move into cover you are going to need to get up close to something you can hide behind and press 'F' by default on PC. This will move you into that piece of cover.
Step 2)Move from cover to cover.
Once you are in cover, you can move along the cover as normal by sliding along the piece of cover, but you can also leave cover and sprint towards another piece of cover as needed. To do this, simply look directly at the cover you want to move to, and press space. If it's directly ahead of you, you'll hop over your current cover and sprint towards the next, or you'll round the corner and run for it. This can be useful for either sneaking up on people, or just getting to a more advantageous position in a firefight.
Step 3)Fire from cover or perform a take down from cover.
As well as hiding behind cover, you can also stay in cover to fire upon the enemies. Just hold the right mouse button and you'll step around the corner while aiming to fire, or pop up from the cover to fire. You can use this to effectively step out, fire, and then slip back into cover to reload or just wait for the enemy to stop firing at your position. You can also slip from cover to cover to sneak up on your opponents to perform a takedown, either non lethal or lethal.
Keep these tips in mind, if you don't use cover at all, there's a good chance you are going to have a very bad time with this game. You will get gunned down pretty early, and most likely repeatedly.
