How to fix Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 USB problems

The Dell XPS 13 is one of the best Windows laptops bar none, until now. The release of the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 looks like it will overshadow its older sibling quite quickly and for good reason. When launched, the original XPS 13 had some USB problems. Dell quickly released new updates to tackle the issue and workarounds quickly followed. While we don’t expect the same level of trouble with the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, USB problems may occur.

Here is how to fix them if they do.

In the original XPS 13, the USB-C port shared voltage with the Wi-Fi adapter. We don’t yet know if the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 has the same configuration, but if it does, these tips will help you quickly overcome any USB problems that might arise.

Fix Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 USB problems with updates
If you are experiencing USB issues with your new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, the first thing to do is perform updates.

1. Select the Windows Start button and then Settings.
2. Navigate to Update & security.
3. Select Advanced options under Update settings in the right pane and check the box next to ‘Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows.
4. Click the back arrow once to return to Update & security.
5. Select Check for updates and allow Windows update to complete.

Next we need to check for Dell-specific updates.

1. Visit the Dell drivers and downloads website.
2. Enter your Service Tag or manually select your updates.
3. Download and install all updates.

Reboot your device and see if the problem has been addressed.

Lower Wi-Fi power in Dell XPS 13 2-in-1
If the issue still persists, try the following. It worked on the previous XPS 13 so it may work on the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 too.

1. Right click the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
2. Expand Network Adapters and select the Wi-Fi adapter.
3. Right click, select Properties and then the Advanced tab.
4. Select ‘Power Output’ in the left window and select 75% as the value in the right window.
5. Click OK.
6. Reboot your Dell XPS 13 2-in-1
