Hello my Friends and welcome on my first tutorial : How to set up WiDi on Windows 8.1 ?

  • First of all , What is WiDi?
WiDi is the Wirless Display technology by Intel , similar to Miracast. With WiDi you can wirelessly stream your Desktop to a WiDi compatible hardware like a TV or a WiDi receiver etc.

Setting it up just became easier then ever. This is , as far as I know, only on Windows 8.1 ! On older Windows versions, you need a special WiDi application to start streaming!

Ok lets start :

    Open up the Charm bar

First of all , call up the Charm bar , either by swiping from the right (touchscreen) or by navigating your mouse to the top right corner of your screen, and then moving it downwards.

    Navigate to Devices

Ok great so far , now go to Devices, the forth icon in the Charmbar, and click on it!

    Select Project

Ok now you should see 4 options, with the third one being Project. Select it !

    Start pairing

Depending on your receiving hardware, the following steps change. You need to start pairing on your receiver, on my Toshiba TV there is an option for WiDi and i simply need to select it. It pops up in Windows and i click on it. The first time you need to set up a code, to verify your the one who connects , like with bluetooth. Simply type in the code and your done! Chose with Win+P shortcut if you want to duplicate or expand etc. your screen !

Tada happy wireless displaying!

P.s. If pictures are needed , feel free to ask and i'll add them!

Good Luck!!
