Spotify is a music streaming service that gives listeners access to just about anything they want to hear. And not only can you stream music you don’t have, you can also play music from your computer’s hard drive.

Step 1
When you open Spotify you should see a menu on the left side of your screen. Under the “Collections” heading you will see a selection that says “Local Files” with an icon of a music note on a piece of paper next to it. This is where you can view all the files on your computer that Spotify as access to.

Step 2
To add files to your library that Spotify has access to you have to go into your Preferences. Click on the “Spotify” button at the top left of your screen. A menu will appear underneath where you clicked and from this menu you want to choose the “Preferences” option.

Step 3
Once in Preferences you should see a section that says “Local Files.” From here hit the “Add Source…” button to browse the files on your computer and add them to your Spotify library. Spotify supports mp3 and mp4 files.

Recap
Spotify is great for streaming music as well as listening to music you already have on your computer. Just add the files you want to listen to from your computer into your Spotify library and then access them by clicking the Local Files option under Collections.
