Although you can easily adjust the screen capture area by grabbing and moving the handles that are displayed around the screen as soon as the Camtasia Recorder program is initialized, the manual settings might not always be as perfect and error-free as you want them to be.

Considering this, the developers of the application have integrated a lock feature using which you can lock the capture area precisely for the interface of any application whose movie you want to capture.

Locking the capture area to an application interface is always a good practice as it saves your decent amount of time that you would have to spend otherwise while setting the screen capture area manually.

Locking the screen capture area using the feature is also useful and highly efficient because it allows you to keep the interface that is to be captured place anywhere on the screen. This means that if a particular interface of an application is to be recorded, it would hardly matter if it is docked at the top right, top left, center, bottom right or bottom left corner of your computer screen. This would not be the case if you were to set the screen capture area manually as while doing so, you are required to use the precise position and the dimensions for the area.

In this tutorial, you will learn how you can lock the interface of an application that you want to demonstrate in your movie. The settings are to be made in Camtasia Recorder program and therefore Camtasia Studio is not required to be initialized. This further saves your overhead and time because no further editing is required to give the final production a finishing touch.

Here’s what you need to do to lock the interface of an application to capture the movie:

■Log on to the computer using any account since no administrative intervention is required.

■Double-click the Camtasia Recorder icon to initialize the program. You can also go to the Start > All Programs > TechSmith > Camtasia Recorder to start the application.

■On the opened interface, click the Capture menu from the menu bar.

■From the displayed list, click the Lock to application option.

■Once you do so, the most active application’s interface will get locked automatically.

■Once this happens, you can press the rec button on the Camtasia Recorder interface to start the recording using the locked capture area.
