Do you ever get upset when your fps goes below 60? Do you ever begin screaming at your computer when you cannot play your favourite games at a decent frame rate? Well I know that I used to before I built my latest PC. Hopefully this guide will help you improve your frame rate in one game: Black Ops 3.

* I will begin to post these types of Tutorials regularly if these Tutorials are helpful *

Black Ops 3 is a great game that sadly has various issues which can render the game unplayable on some PCs. I remember when I first loaded the game and maxed out every graphics setting there was, it didn't quite go to plan and my fps was going all over the place from 40 - 80 fps.

Here are some key tweaks to improve Black Ops 3 and the frame rate issues you may have:

1) To improve fps in most games you can run Black Ops 3 in Windowed mode, but I would recommend sticking with Full screen unless you are extremely desperate.

2) Try turning your resolution down in game. If 1080p (1920x1080) is not usable on your PC, then try turning it down to 1600x900 or anything below 1080p. You should start to see an increase in fps already.

At 1080p - 144Hz, I can am getting 80 fps at this moment in time (whilst writing this + several other windows open):

I am changing my resolution to 1600x900 in Options, Graphics, Video, Screen Resolution:

My fps has increased by 14 already from one setting change:

3) Next make sure your refresh rate is the correct option for your monitor, I have two monitors and the one I am using for gaming is 144Hz. Go to Options, Graphics, Video, Refresh Rate and make sure your refresh rate is correct for your monitor (60Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz or 144Hz).

4) Change the Brightness and Field of View (FOV) as you would like, personally I use a FOV of 120, but the default is 80.

5) Make sure your Max Frames Per Second is the highest you can go on the slider - 240 fps. Also select Sync Every Frame for the best results.

6) Now moving to Options, Graphics, Advanced:

It's time to select the correct Texture Quality, Texture Filtering, Mesh Quality, Shadow Map Quality, etc for your PC. First test your PC on the highest settings you think your PC can handle, then if you're not happy with that fps just turned down each setting until your happy.

Key settings to check:

7) Do not use Subsurface Scattering, I found that this setting didn't improve the graphics much anyway and yet it ruins your fps and makes fps unstable.

8) Turn off: Order Independent Transparency & Volumetric Lighting! These also upset your fps, I do not recommend using these settings.

9) Turn off, or lower Anti Aliasing/Ambient Occlusion if your fps is still low after doing the changes above.

10) Motion Blur is optional, but I personally like it so I use Dynamic motion blur :)

Software to help improve overall PC performance:

11) Razer Cortex: Boost - Razer Cortex is a great free program with several different features, but the most important one for you will be the Boost feature. This feature optimizes, tweaks, defrags, cleans game files/settings.

12) Nvidia GeForce Experience: If you own a Nvidia GPU then you can use Nvidia's game optimizing tool (under Game tab in software). This tool suggests the best settings for each game that it recognises (this includes most main titles). However, I found that it recommends quite low settings for games - in my case it recommended Medium settings on BO3 but I can play with 70 - 130 fps on a mix of Extra/High settings.

For improved game/PC performance run all these cleaning tools:

13) Clean Master: This is my personal favourite cleaning tool, perhaps not as popular as Ccleaner but faster and it has a much more modern design.

14) Ccleaner: This is also a great cleaning tool, extremely well known and popular with several useful features.

15) Glary Utilities 5: An amazing program with over 20 tools to speed up, update, check security, remove/uninstall programs on your PC.

16) Finally if you have a desktop PC (not recommended for laptops) you could always overclock your CPU/GPU using software or the BIOS.
