Your Grandpa is the first person you ever meet in Stardew Valley. He gives you the letter which starts your journey as a citizen of Stardew Valley.
Sadly he passes away right after that and thus you cannot give him any gifts and cannot increase your relationship level with him. You cannot talk to him after his passing but his ghost still lingers on watching over you at every turn.
Events with Grandpa:
The first ever event with your grandpa occurs when you start the game. He hands you a letter and tells you a little story. He tells you how he grew bored with life in the city as it turned meaningless. He tells you to open when you feel like you need a change and need to find purpose in life again. Once you open the letter you’ll leave for the farm and start your new life there. The second event occurs on your third year. Your grandfather’s ghost arrives in the farm and judges your progress and all that you’ve done for Stardew Valley. If you manage to please him he gives you a Statue of Perfection which gives you Iridium Ore every day. The quantity of ore is completely random as it range from 2 to 8 pieces every day.
Grandpa’s Judgment:
Your Grandpa judges you on a bunch of stuff. His judgment can be divided into 21 points. The first 7 points are earned just for the amount of gold that you’ve earned in your farm. The first point is at 100,000 gold and the seventh is at a million gold. The next points are as follows:
- 30 Levels in all the skills
- The final level in every skill
- Catching Every fish
- Shipping every item
- Completing the Museum collection
- Getting four Hearts with your pet
- Marrying someone and fully upgrading the house
- Getting eight hearts with 5 people
- Getting 8 hearts with 10 people
- Getting the Rusty Key
- Restoring the Community Center
- Getting the Skull Key
- And an extra 2 points for restoring the Community Center using the bundles
Grandpa’s Shrine:
Your grandfather’s shrine is located on the right of your farm and you can see how many candles are lit.
If there is only one candle lit then you have 0-3 points, if there are two lit then you have 4-7 points, if 3 are lit then 8-11 and if four then you have above 12 points which is the number you need to get the statue. You can also ask to be reevaluated by bringing a diamond to his shrine just in case you failed the evaluation or you want to see how you are doing.
Even in death Grandpa refuses to sit idly by. He is still helping you make your life as comfortable as possible. He gives you specific goals to reach and it is a good way to measure how well you are progressing in the game.
