Gunther is a Non-Playable Character in Stardew Valley with whom you can interact with outside of his work but you cannot give him any gifts personally. He is completely devoted to his work in the Museum and can’t be found outside of the Museum, even in any of the festivals.
Since you cannot give him any personal gifts, it means that you cannot increase your relationship with him in any way. No matter what you do his attitude towards you does not change in any way. Save for the fact that he likes you a lot more if you donate things to the Museum. Donating things to the Museum also earns you some pretty sweet rewards. What are they? Let’s find out:
Gunther’s Rewards:
There are certain tiers which you can complete to earn certain rewards. They are as follows:
- Cauliflower Seeds: 5 items
- Melon Seeds: 10 items
- Starfruit Seeds: 15 items
- ‘A Night on Eco Hill’ painting: 20 items
- ‘Jade Hills’ painting: 25 item
- Large Futah Bear: 30 items
- Rarecrow no.8: 40 items
- Bear Statue: 50 items
- Rusty Key: 60 items
- Stardrop: 95 items
Those rewards are available for all items donated to the museum but there are certain rewards that you can get by donating different types of items. You can get different rewards for donating a certain amount of minerals as well as rewards for certain items. The complete list is as follows:
- Standing Geode: 11 minerals
- Singing Stone: 21 minerals
- Obsidian Vase: 31 minerals
- Crystal Chair: 41 minerals
- Crystalarium: 50 minerals
- Burnt Offering: 11 artifacts

- Rarecrow no.7: 20 artifacts
- Drum Block: Ancient Drum
- Chicken Statue: Chicken Statue
- Dwarvish Translation Guide: All five Dwarf Scrolls
- Ancient Seed with the crafting recipe: Ancient Seed
- Large Sloth Skeleton: Skeleton Hand, Prehistoric Skull and Prehistoric Scapula
- Regular Sloth Skeleton: Skeletal Tail
- Flute Block: Bone Flute

In addition to all of these rewards, Gunther also takes part in a couple of quests. The first one is completing all of the entries in the Museum. The first time that you meet Gunther, he tells you that the previous curator of the Museum took all the artifacts and ran away and he asks for your help to restore all the items. Completing this quest will give you a Stardrop which permanently increases your health and energy.
The second quest is about the sewer. Once you get 60 items for Gunther he will give you the key to the sewers with which you can meet some more interesting characters and unlock a few neat quests.
Collecting all of this stuff might seem like a hassle but the rewards are worth it. Besides, the rewards are worthless if you sell them. Keep in mind though, you can find items from geodes, in the mines and if you ever see worms in the ground don’t forget to hoe that block as that will always give you something.
