There are two TEMP folders that are created in Windows 8. Both the TEMP folders store temporary files that are automatically created during the installation or uninstallation of any software application, or while downloading any information from the web. The temporary files are also created while opening any website because technically the information still gets downloaded before it is displayed on the screen as a webpage.
One among the two TEMP folders is used to store the temporary files that the operating system creates automatically, whereas the other TEMP folder stores the user specific temporary files that are created while downloading any information from the web or surfing the Internet. The users’ TEMP also stores the temporary files when they try to perform any user specific tasks such as opening any local file which sometimes creates temporary files in the background.
In case you are experiencing slow Internet, or overall delayed Windows performance, you might want to empty the TEMP folder, which remarkably increases the overall Internet and local system’s speed and performance.
Here is how you can empty the TEMP folder in order to increase the system and Internet performance, and freeing up the disk space that is otherwise unnecessarily occupied when the TEMP folder is filled with unwanted and junk data:

- ■Log on to the Windows 8/Windows 8.1 computer using any account. (If you are using the administrator account, it is better.)
■From the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.
■Once on the desktop window, press Windows + R keys simultaneously to initialize the Run command box.
■In the available field in the Run command box, type %TEMP% and press Enter.
■On the opened Temp folder, press Ctrl + A keys simultaneously to select all the contents of the folder in a single go.
■Once all the contents of the folder are selected, press the Delete button on your keyboard in order to remove the selected objects.
■In case the operating system displays a message saying that any particular object cannot be deleted, skip the object from the deletion process and allow the windows to continue deleting the other contents of the folder.
■Once the TEMP folder is emptied, restart the computer to allow the changes to take effect.
