As long as you have an ATX motherboard, you're good, though Intel and AMD boards do use different mounting mechanisms for the fans (I believe it also varies amongst generations) if you want to keep yours. Also keep in mind that if you want to go to a form factor that's not ATX, that will work...

Basically any laptop with a 1070 will have an i7, and even an i5 is sufficient.

You can try, but Nvidia's current list of "G-Sync Compatible" monitors is very small, so your mileage may vary.

A lot of people get kind of salty about a PSU fan facing the wrong way, but as long as everything's running without issue you're fine, an incorrect configuration just isn't ideal.

Overclocking is a process of trial and error, and your success is a matter of your luck in winning the silicon lottery. Just keep bumping up your clocks until as they're as high as possible while stable.

I'd just give it some more time rather than panicking. Updates/resets like to do that sometimes.

It's hard to go wrong with the 580, but it might be worth waiting for the 2060, as it offers some rock solid value as well, if on the slightly higher end.

An SSD will help. Also, how much RAM do you have? If you only have 4GB going up to 8 would also do you some good. Going from 8 to 16 won't make much of a difference for you, though.

You could try removing the CMOS battery and putting it back in, hence resetting any BIOS settings.
