I believe the 7970 would last you longer. It has an extra GB of VRAM, which will become necessary for newer games with heavy textures, and performance is similar to that of the 680.

I would personally go with a 7970 3Gb over a 680 4Gb, since the VRAM is more than enough for two monitors, and performance is very similar. Plus, the 7970 is a couple hundred dollars cheaper as well.

Get an i5 3570k and an AsRock Z77 Extreme4, overclock the cpu to around 4.2-4.5ghz and you'll be fine for performance in games. Haswell is not going to be released on LGA 1155, so you're not really 'future proofing' by getting a Z77 CPU, but the i5 3570k should handle games well enough. And a...
