Western Digital's VelociRaptor Hard Drive Hits 1 TB

These things are a joke. Notice they only list sequential reads and writes. 99% of real transfers are done at 64k Random at which these drives will be just as wretched as any other spindle drive. They have no use in enterprise as SAS serves that niche. This drive is nothing more than an...

G-Technology Ships 8 TB Thunderbolt RAID Drive

First this isn't an apple only product. Z77 will ship with thunderbolt support. Second did you see the sustained throughput? 280MB/s is 2nd gen SSD speeds. You're not going to get that from any RAID0 SATA 7200 drives even if you were running them in quads. Maybe some of you haven't been...

    Triple monitor setup

The Acell adapter is plain and simple, garbage. Dell uses a rebranded version which I've used in the past. The problem lies in the usb power draw not being sufficient to power a full DVI-I resolution. RMA it and stick with the VGA>DP adapter, from there you can go DP>MiniDP. That's what I...

System Builder Marathon Bonus: Newegg Customer Choice PC

Interesting, still not surprising given recent results in group dynamic studies. Groups will often make better choices than individuals, that's not to say a group can replace or perform on par with an expert individual, just better than the average.

System Builder Marathon, March 2012: $2600 Performance PC

Just a Great Build. This is one of the most solid, non-gimmicky builds I've seen in a SBM in a long time. Great job on putting together an every day monster that's easy to maintain yet has tons of room for future upgrades if wanted.

    USB 3.0 on motherboards

It should also be noted that there is no Intel USB 3.0 controller at the moment. Every single controller is 3rd party and have had varying degrees of success.

    Vote: Two Builds, $700-725

I don't oppose the choice of the Pentium processor, mostly just H61 as it doesn't have native Intel Sata 6Gb/s support. Also a 6870 over a 560ti at this price point would be ideal. Ultimately I voted Z68 just for its versatility and ability to support modern SSDs at their full potential.

How Well Will Mass Effect 3 Run On Your PC?

I think this reflects a trend that has been going on since game programming began. Initial launch games on any new format tend to require more of a system than games that are built well into a development cycle. From the days of Atari 2600 to developer tools like DX11. While Metro2033 and BF3...

    Sandy Bridge price drop?

There's no need to guess at what pci-e 3.0 will utilize. Next generation SSDs. As it stands today SATA 6Gb/s has already been saturated by drives like the Revo. We're about to see a format war between Thunderbolt and SATA Express and guess what, they'll both utilize pci-e 3.0 lanes. This...

12 monitors on a single system

By combining eyefinity and a 3rd party solution such as triplehead2go you can daisy chain pretty much any configuration you're seeking. This topic is really beyond the technical level that your average gamer is going to possess so I'd recommend checking out http://widescreengamingforum.com/.

I have two builds, which one would you recommend, change, etc?

It really depends on how heavy you want to get into pc gaming and if you plan on buying a discrete video card if you find it interesting. If the answer is no you will not buy a discrete video card than the AMD is going to provide a much better onboard video solution. If the answer is that you...

Dutch Ad Points to a Diablo 3 Launch on April 19

I'm divided here to be honest. I did play through both Diablo and D2 when they released and I have great memories of both games. I've been looking forward to this release for a long time. With that being said, I think Blizzard is really slapping the gaming community in the face with some of...
