    Perhaps this is a printer that uses a Photo black cartridge? That's why it would make sense when you print with photo quality it works.

    Sounds like you need to clean the head. Either HP's software will provide you a way to do it or you can manually clean them.

    There isn't a print head on a laser printer. IF it is a new cartridge check to make sure all pull strips have been removed. Also if it's an old cartridge does it need to be replaced? Could also be the drum.

    You'll need a new chip on the cartridges. you might be able to bypass it by holding the stop button when the error comes up however.

    Hmmm i'd try reinstalling the drivers and also doing a factory reset on the printer itself.
