I wish I knew the answers to those questions. It was so long ago I do not even remember exactly what the symptoms were besides general instability. If nothing else, if you haven't replaced the battery in a while anyhow it couldn't hurt to slap in a new on considering how cheap they are...

Is it possible that a weak battery could cause this? I know when I had some strange problems with my computer at one time it turned out to be the battery was weak..

Thanks guys - I don't care too much about FPS, as long as the game is smooth and without stutters. Anything at or above 30 FPS is fine with me. I do tend to appreciate graphics quality, so that is a big factor. I will most likely keep my current monitor using the 2560x1440 resolution...

Sorry for the delay of this update, but after a little bit of investigation, it turns out that I had a reset switch that seems to have been bad. I I suspect that some dust was shorting it out. After working the switch a bit it all works as good as new.. Thanks Ingtar33. You nailed it!

I'll try again after the battery has been out longer. Thanks for the info on the LED's OK, I left out the battery to reset the cmos, reinstalled, and no change. all cables firmly in place as is ram and cpu and mobo. ??????

Yeah thanks - I was expecting to see a jumper there somewhere but there wasn't and it threw me off. Anyhow, changing the battery has the same effect so the cmos should be reset no. The one thing that is bothering me is that phase led number 4, which is red. I don't recall what it had been when...
