It seems to me that nVidia just pulled one on the whole world with this trick. Why would any partner price their board at 600 when they can charge 700 for it? I highly doubt we will see the 379 and 599 price points until AMD comes up with the 1070 and 1080 counterparts.

It is definitely not necessary. Use Tom's CPU guide to see which CPU to buy for gaming (hint: It's an i5) depending on your needs and spend the rest of the money on a good GPU or an SSD (if your build doesn't already include one).

I'm having the exact same issue and all the proposed steps (new firmware/drivers/cable) have not worked. Are there any other ideas anyone could suggest?

Is that the default? If so, I think it's too high given that I have the same CPU and it's set to 1.205v.

Thanks for all the answers so far! I have tried switching the cable and unfortunately that isn't it. I'm definitely looking at the correct input as well. As for what unknownforprob mentioned, that sounds like it could be it. Do you know of a way to check if my card falls in that category?
