    From my knowledge of batteries, there is a chance due to prolonged storage and the self discharge, the battery has dropped below critical voltage, hence the self protection circuits will not allow it to be charge for fear of accident.     Im not sure about that, from what i have read its acting as a on/off switch so it has to be connected all the time during boot. It probably will stay on, but whether it will affect the system with weird voltages is beyond my knowledge. It might be time for a psu upgrade anyway, a good unit...

    Front panel io is rare but possible, might be time we tested the more unconventional things Hmm, i would assume that a front panel short would be akin to a force shutdown (holding down the power button) You can check this by unplugging all front panel and then shorting across the power header...

    You probably can use some hardware monitoring tool (im not too familiar so some research is needed) such as msi afterburner/most oc tools. What cpu cooler are you using? The fx series runs quite hot especially when overclocked. Alvis
