An oddity that has started now: every other time i turn the computer on, the hsf spins up to full speed, and stays there.
I checked in bios and when it is at full speed, the temperature is 27 degrees. When it's not at full speed, it's 25 degrees.
One time it even stopped completely, yet the...
I built this computer in summer 07:
e4300 L2 stepping
Zalman 9700 pwm version with artic silver 5
2900xt
P35C DS3R
HX620W
Geil Ultra 800mhz 2gb
Antec P182
At stock speeds and with voltage set to auto (lower than stock, as i tried stock and temps were even higher) and the case fans set to...
The 7600gs with ddr3.
I really think you should save up and buy a new system. Even if it means staying with that for half a year, it will be well worth it.
@Gomerpile:
I am stunned by the fact that you just recommended PC2-8500 for a budget PC. Do you honestly believe that it is better to...
Yes, it is a huge waste of money. If you don't want SLi, then you don't even need a 680i based board. p35 is higher performance, cheaper and more future-proof.
You think you've got similar prices? The lowest cost 2900xt and the lowest cost 8800gts 640mb cost EXACTLY the same over here in the UK.
Now which is the better card? My H2900xt is in the post.
I think you can. Tom's have 2 articles where they taped the connectors on some gfx card to limit bus interface. That worked fine, so I 'm guessing yes.
So, after about 2 months of looking at various components, I have decided on:
scan.co.uk
320 Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 £52.28
Gigabyte GA P35C-DS3R, iP35 Express, S775, PCI-E(x16), DDR2/3 £85.29
Asus DRW-1814BLT, DVD±R x18, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x14, Lightscribe, SATA...
Yes, the American tanks were utter crap, when compared with the German ones. They used sandbags fo armour for christ's sake!
The Germans' undoing, however, was their pickyness about quality. The components on their tanks were incredibly well engineered, and would have lasted for a long time...
That's comparing dx9 to 10. To compare the cards, you would use dx9. "better looking" is subjective, I, for example, thing hdr looks like crap, so I keep it off in games. I also don't notice aliasing much in games.
Why don't you read his post?
@op: apparently, the end timing won't affect performance. You could try lowering it if you wanted to though.
Please post why you need 8 gigs of ram and system specs.
asus p5k $160
2gb g.skill ddr2 800 $75
corsair hx 620 $170
seagate barracuda 320gb $95
8800gts 640mb $320 mir
e6420 $187
Total $1007 (ex. shipping)
After looking on newegg, it would seem that the price difference in the US between ddr2 800 and 667 is small, so I put ddr2 800 in.
You could...
The intel system doesn't need ddr2 800, it will have much more of an effect on the amd system. 800 vs 667 is 100 bucks versus 200 bucks, at least in the UK. Your choice, but i'm leaning towards the c2d with ddr2 667.
I'm sure there are p35 based boards for ~$140.
Conversely, it is silly to buy the card which is performing better now, if the other card could destroy it next month with a driver update and/or in the next iteration of direct x.
Ultimately, this is a REALLY bad time to be buying a graphics card. It will be much more beneficial to sit on the...
2900xt costs the same as 1950xtx. As does 8800gts. 1950 xtx is not worth the money.
The Striker Extreme is definately not worth it, overpriced POS. Get a p35 board instead.
Wait for quad core price drops 22 july.
Apparently, the Enzotech Ultra-X trashes everything else.
Damned if I can find anywhere in the UK which sells it though. Even eBay doesn't have it. Might be worth waiting for though  .
