WD My Book essential HDD replacement - wrong size

I did it. Shorting HOLD# pin (pin 7) of eeprom (U2) to ground while powering up caused controller board to loose any memory of being WD controller. I don't know whether I completely destroyed eeprom or simply the bridge IC decided to ignore what ever is inside after my invasion, but now it is...

WD My Book essential HDD replacement - wrong size

Ok, few more hours in to this and now I know that any HDD I plug shows the same 233GB (250 Gb). I managed to find my old downloads with all the WD software of that time (same as today, only older), but there is nothing special about it... I also tried "forgetting" password hoping that it will...

WD My Book essential HDD replacement - wrong size

Hi, I have a WD My Book Essential USB 3.0 external drive that originally was 1 or 2TB. Few years ago I replaced the original drive with some older 250GB Maxtor drive and clearly remember that I had to use some software tool to make it work. Now I have a spare 1TB WD Blue that I want to use in...

Freezing PC. Furmark CPU burn crashes, Prime95 not

Update: Real Bench stress test also hangs under fixed 1.40 V Vcore as well with default bios settings (automatic Vcore). I suppose, it is safe to say that there is an issue with MB or CPU?

Freezing PC. Furmark CPU burn crashes, Prime95 not

I am now running AMD Overdrive auto-tune and it is not crashing... Can there be a problem with automatically adjusted Vcore being adjusted too low? Overdrive keeps it ant 1,45 V and when using mentioned stress test is drops below that (will check it later). Edit1: I tried fixing CPU voltage to...

Freezing PC. Furmark CPU burn crashes, Prime95 not

Thank you for your feedback. I now have stock BIOS settings, latest firmware, latest GPU drivers. Finally I managed to get something repeatable. It takes 10s to 1 min. to hang the PC with Furmark CPU burner. Even though temperature stays under 50 C. Can it be some local hot spots? If I run 5...

windows 7 and 8 unable to boot: bsod and ksod

Thanks for your attention, James Mason. Windows 7 was first. I was going to reinstall it anyway because of the GPU problem ( https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?527253-Blue-screen-and-crash-on-Ultra-High ). The GPU problem was the reason of w8.1 trial at the first place though problem...

windows 7 and 8 unable to boot: bsod and ksod

I have a system with windows 7 and 8.1 in two separate drives. Few days ago I booted from 8.1 to 7 and there was no sound from integrated sound card, though I managed to get it from HDMI monitor. When I tried rebooting to 8.1 I faced an automatic attempt to repair and a 0xC000021a error. Tried...

    FX6300+HD7790 vs 6800K+HD7750

Ok, I have some more rumors regarding PSUs... Gigabyte ATX 2.3 620W PFC/ACTIVE SUPERB GE-E620A-C3 vs Corsair CX600 ATX2.3 80+ 600W (hopefully this is final choice, no more jumping back and forth). Here it is said that Gigabyte is preffered by AMD regarding Cool'n'Quiet support though I was...
