how did you solve that? my pc started acting all of a sudden, and after many hours of fight i managed to zero in the problem = when i put my gpu in pcie slot 2 (x8) everything is peachy. I have the same gpu for almost 2 years, it was in slot 1 until now... i am still not sure if its mobo or gpu...

i 'downgraded' my bios, and it works like a charm now for months... it's quite practical to have the 'sleep' mode so i suggest you try something like that as well

did you solve the problem eventually? how come people only write when they need something, and never when the problem is solved, which would be the most interesting part for anyone with similar problems

the original question was about thermal paste, not cooler,. of course you shouldn't even consider powering a working pc without cooler, but you can use the cooler without thermal paste forever at stock frequencies and normal usage, let alone for short time
