next gen Intel is going to have 6 cores, 12 threads which will still be less than the 8 cores 16 threads AMD currently has. It will also probably be more expensive than a 7700k which is already more expensive than the 1700 he's thinking about. Also when you're calling on waiting until later...

I would recommend the 1700. There is only really 1 type of gamer that I think will benefit from i7s and that is the hardcore FPS gamer that appreciates 200+ fps. For everyone else, the difference between i7 and r7 in games right now is moot. And it seems more likely that the r7 will age better...

I'm surprised to see the 2600k pushed to the 2nd tier of CPUs, seeing Gamer's Nexus benchmarks where it trades blows with the 7600k in game benchmarks. The 2600k is placed in a tier below not only the 7600k, but much slower CPUs as well, such as the 3550. Is there a bias going on with older CPUs?

gamers nexus just did benchmarks with an 2600k overclocked to 4.7Ghz. Which is an easy overclock and it outperformed every Intel I5 in every benchmark. And the 2600k in the third tier with plenty of I5's above it? I think you're undervaluing threads on the intel side...
