I rebooted and it still is not showing up.

I have an old Maxtor IDE hard drive that I am trying to retrieve some data from, using an IDE to USB adapter. I plug the power in, can hear the drive startup, then plug the usb cord in, the light on the adapter turns on so I know I am getting some sort of connection but the drive doesn't show...
