Question How important is SK Hynix number in selecting DDR5

Thanks. You've clarified it for me. I'm more interested in stability than over clocking. With PC performance, in this case as a DAW, there's never enough; but I can live with what I get as long as it is stable.

Question How important is SK Hynix number in selecting DDR5

Thanks, very helpful, I think. Are you saying having higher latency (more clock cycles) in all categories improves stability (easier to run)?

Question How important is SK Hynix number in selecting DDR5

Should I expect the the memory I've purchased to work and be acceptable for over-clocking the i9-13900K installed in the ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-F? I've purchased Team Group 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 7800 MHz memory model FF3D516G7800HC38DBK, SK Hynix CL38-48-48-84 1.4V because it is the only 7800 DDR5...

Question How to Choose a GPU for a New DAW PC?

Cakewalk was bought by Bandlab in 2018 and it's been free and receiving significant improvements and bug fixes ever since. Bandlab has just released the final update and they are releasing two new DAW products that won't be free soon.

Question How to Choose a GPU for a New DAW PC?

Thanks for the GPU Database reference. I'd looked at TechPowerup link from an earlier post, but didn't find the database. As for VULKAN, it looks like the future. There's a link to it on the OpenGL homepage; but I don't recall seeing it in any hardware specs I'm looking at. That may be because...

Question How to Choose a GPU for a New DAW PC?

I like the price, I'll consider the RX 6600 if I decide to upgrade. Based on what I'm hearing here, I'm going to wait until I've got the new DAW up and running, and can test the intel integrated GPU and my RX 580 for mixing. What numbers are you comparing to calculate the 68% more potent...

[SOLVED] ATX or micro ATX case with no internal or external drive bays

Thanks for the detailed build description. For the fan's I think I've used PWM fan extension cable on earlier builds to be able to route cables conveniently. Cooling and noise are probably my biggest concerns since my racks have solid wood sides with only about an inch on either side for air...

Question How to Choose a GPU for a New DAW PC?

Thanks. I may use your idea once my replacement PC is built. I can start out with my existing RX 580 8GB, record some mixing results. Then purchase a significantly more powerful graphics card and run the same test. One problem I'll have is that I have the Windows and Cakewalk Performance...

Question How to Choose a GPU for a New DAW PC?

Dsiplaying output is not always as simple as it sounds. To my knowledge DAW GPU requirements are either non-existent or a well kept secret. I'm not at all familiar with computer games but I'm guessing that DAW GPU requirements are less than those for computer games. I just don't know how much...

Question How to Choose a GPU for a New DAW PC?

There's lot's of advice here and other places for choosing a GPU for gaming but not so for use in a DAW (for music production). Historically DAW applications did not tax the GPU. So the advice was to spend as little as possible on a GPU. That advice is no longer valid, at least in m opinion...

Question What are the main differences in these ROG STRIX Z790-E/F/H GAMING WIFI?

Thanks again. That really does help me in my evaluation. I'm starting with the i9-12900K or KF, but I may choose to upgrade to the 13900K/KF later. I tinkered with overclocking on my X99 Deluxe II gave up because I kept making mistakes. The Z790-F appears to make overclocking easier, so I'll...

Question What are the main differences in these ROG STRIX Z790-E/F/H GAMING WIFI?

Thanks for responding. Sorry, I didn't notice that it had been solved. Also thanks for the explanation. Now I understand how ASUS has damaged their reputation and lost credibility. The dilemma for me is that I haven't been able to find a comparable competing product from another manufacturer...

Question What are the main differences in these ROG STRIX Z790-E/F/H GAMING WIFI?

Thanks, I wasn't aware that ASUS was subpar. Can you elaborate? To me the ROG STRIX Z790-F looks like a good choice if you don't want to spend over $400 for a mb with 4 ea expansion slots and M2 drives. What am I missing? Which other mb would you recommend?

[SOLVED] ATX or micro ATX case with no internal or external drive bays

Thanks. That picker tool is a handy starting point in choosing components. Unfortunately I couldn't find any ATX cases with no drive bays. The Sliverstone HTPC cases come the closest and are an attractive option. Their (possible removable) drive bays are over rather than in front of the mb...
