AMD's Kabini: Jaguar And GCN Come Together In A 15 W APU

Atom chips range from 1W-10W, so comparing Atom to 15W Kabini would be just as wrong as comparing Kabini to a 35W Core product. The fairest comparison is to an similarly priced product in the same category.

AMD CPU speculation... and expert conjecture

I would say that SPEC (specifically CPU2006) is probably one of the best and most fair system benchmarks because it stresses the whole system with real-world workloads, and it allows the use of GCC or ICC. In addition, certain conditions must be met in order for a SPEC run to qualify for...

AMD CPU speculation... and expert conjecture

Yes but 36 mpg means the same thing on any car. 36 MPG on a Honda is the same on a Ford or a Toyota or a Chevvy. That is why GHz is a very misleading metric to compare CPU specs with. It's really only good to compare with other CPUs within the same microarchitectural family, but the layperson...

AMD CPU speculation... and expert conjecture

Well not exactly. Laptops have certainly displaced desktops (at my company at least) as the primary compute device. Each of our 100k+ employees have standard issue laptops /w docking station. Desktops and workstations are distributed as needed. So it's sort of the other way around where desktops...
