Is a GTX 970 worth it for me?

I would go with a 290x recent benchmarks put it on par with the gtx980. With direct x 12 most computing is going to be done on gpu, so cpus won't really be much of an issue.

GTX 970 vs 980 and in SLI

That isn't the point, any modern game that will fill up you're ram over 3.5gb will cause stuttering esp in sli. "The GTX 970 is a 3.5gb card. It will perform horribly once 3.5gb of Vram is used and is a deal breaker to many high resolution enthusiasts. However, if you don't run into the Vram...

GTX 970 vs 980 and in SLI

I'll just drop this here http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/2tu86z/discussion_i_benchmarked_gtx_970s_in_sli_at_1440p/ Unless they fix the 970's with a driver or hardware update go with the 980 or 290x, 290x2.

Rethinking GTX 970, what else is there?

Its not so much the frames, people are having problems with stuttering esp with sli. It's still not a bad card for 1080p, but idk about 1440+. r9 290 and 290x looks much more attractive atm.

Looking for Video Card on New Build

I was about to reply to this but Light beat me to it about the 280x, its way better bang for the buck then a 970 for 1080p. If you don't mind getting used 280x they go for around $150 on ebay. Also if you have 20-30 extra dollars got with the 290x over 290.
