Legacy Hardware: Do I change the TIM after 10 years?

So, I recently took possession of both of my family's old core 2 duo systems to tinker with (play XP games on one, play around with Linux on the other). While running some much needed cleaning software I found that under full load the core Temps were reaching 82-83c. Doing a little research I...

    Undervolting a thuban 1075t

Now now now, everyone bear with me before everyone jumps on me and tells me that I'm an idiot for doing this. I got an Asus M4A88TD usb 3.0, phenom II x6 1075t,12gb of ripjaws 1600 ram, and a hyper 213 evo for free from a buddy. I currently have the system overclocked to 3.8Ghz and am encoding...

    MSI B150 and ECC?

The i3 6100 and the G4400 support ECC memory. Hypothetically a system with the MoBo, a g4400, and ecc memory would work.

    MSI B150 and ECC?

If I understand this correctly, if the cpu supports ECC then the board let's you actually use ECC, but if the cpu doesn't support ECC then the memory runs in non-ECC mode. But can anyone confirm as a primary source that running a xeon, pentium, or i3 on this motherboard with ECC RAM works?

    MSI B150 and ECC?

So, as very few will know, I have been doing a lot of research on freenas and doing a diy home nas as cheaply as possible. In my research I came across the MSI B150-Pro VD motherboard which claims to support ECC unbuffered memory. My question, has anyone confirmed that this works, because if it...

    6600k OC Problem

Alrighty, after a day and a half of testing (still testing rightnow) I was able to achieve 4.5Ghz at 1.3v confirmed after prime95 30min, Aida64 for 30min, and occt:cpu for a little over 3 hours. Now going for 4.6Ghz at 1.35v again (prime95 for 30min, working on a 2hour test of aida64 right now)...

    6600k OC Problem

I just wanted to jump on and say that when the vcore setting is left on auto my motherboard doesn't increase voltage to match clockspeed. It just targets 1.2v and leaves it. So when I got to running occt at 4.4ghz it would crash after 1minute of test because the vcore wouldn't go over 1.21v...

    6600k OC Problem

Themasterr do I run any risk of damaging anything running prime95 for that long with a vcore of 1.350?

    6600k OC Problem

I am willing to try what geofelt suggested. I looked at the bios updates, but none of the notes address overclocking issues, just microcode updates and memory & storage compatibility updates. What I really want answered is why would the computer work perfectly well at 4.6 for about 18 hours...

    6600k OC Problem

Currently I am running an MSI Z170A-Pro motherboard and a 6600k. I wanted to try my hand a manually overclocking and was able to achieve a result of 4.6Ghz at 1.35v. I stress tested with Prime95 and Aida64 for 15min a piece, both passed with core 2 reaching a max temp of 66°C. I used the...

    Home Brew NAS Questions

Thanks guys, I have done a good amount of research on the OS and their pros and cons, I might run FreeNAS because it is free and so versitile, but I kinda want to try unraid because I can practically use any drive and it will make it work (Downside, paying for a license). Ultimately, I was...

    Home Brew NAS Questions

I have been toying with building a NAS for a while. Before I go whole hog and build something around a G4400 I have laying around I wanted to get/build something much cheaper for a proof of concept NAS. So I started looking at old workstations on ebay and goodwill computers as a cheaper quick...

Component upgrade questions for my PC

Thank you IDProG, When discussing the 6600 what type of cooler would you suggest. I know most people would say liquid or bust, but I am of the few people that prefer traditional cooling (I'm a very set it and forget it kind of person) due to its lack of maintenance. Are there better low profile...
