Thanks for the replies. I think I'll end up purchasing a new cooler. I'd like to stick to air-cooling. Stew, of the two air coolers you recommended, which one would you favor?
To what extent could I overclock my AMD FX-6100 on the stock/default fan?
If any further specs are required, here's the newegg page for the product:

Also, I'm running a 550w PSU if that's an issue. Thanks in advance!
Recently, a game called Smite and another called Tribes: Ascend. I used to run Tribes on Very High settings with no problem, (60-90 fps) and smite runs well on most machines really, (I was getting 100+ fps) but then it locks at 20-30 fps.

I've been experiencing low frame rates in games where I exceed the recommended system reqs. After looking at my cpu/gpu temps/load it looks to me as if they aren't doing much work at all. Is there a reason this might be happening?
Resetting the computer typically resolves the problem(it occurs...
I was taking my CPU out of the box, and when I picked up the fan, I accidentally touched the bottom, and removed some of the grey paste. I haven't intentionally removed any, or cleaned it off thoroughly-- am I still OK to use it, or do I need new thermal paste?
I suppose I could salvage the case and HDD. ( Don't know what I'm talking about )
Well the thing is do you want to conserve as much money as possible but still build a PC that can do moderate gaming or do you want to spend the full $700 and get the best you can buy?: Somewhere in the middle...
It seems like I just have the wrong PC in general for gaming... If you were to reccomend a pre-built desktop PC, which would you reccomend on a...say 400-700$ budget? I know this is know off topic in this thread, but I don't think that I should post another one.
