Avira or Avast, both have free versions but I'd go with the medium package for both, the Premium one has too much heuristics and a crappy firewall. Get the middle Avira with PC Tools for a firewall. Avira is like $26 and PC Tools is free. Although Avira's free version is not too bad either...

First off, look at the date that this thread was started. Second, how are you surprised? I made it clear that Kaspersky was causing serious problems with my computer and hampering performance. I'm glad it's working for you, but it did not work for me, and Avira does. Good day.

Well there are some recurring problems with the site, but it is no longer slow for me, and hasn't been in a while. Try clearing cache/cookies or try a different browser or something. Also Adblock Plus and Flashblock help.

Is it by any chance performing a background scan for viruses or malware? Sometimes that can take a lot of CPU depending on what kind of anti-virus software you use. Also, go to start->run and type msconfig, then hit enter. Go to the services tab and look to see if there's anything in there...
