I want to have an external storage for pics, movies, data files media, ect. I want to be able to keep them for a long time, does it matter weather it is a HDD or SSD? How much better is one to the other, brand Western Digital, segate, ect.

Is there some place that tells me step by step on the windows clean install? I have both cables, the cable that has extra plugs that is connected to my current hard drive, can I use that cable or should I use a different one?
