A thing to remember with these old IDE systems is that they read the position of the drives that are connected to the IDE cable. There are only two positions available on the cable. It is not a SCSI chain. So if the drive doesn't register on the connector that you have chosen, try the other one...

I cannot get any IDE drives recognized by my new build on a P5Q Deluxe. The board has so far recognized an IDE DVD burner as master on an IDE cable. It apparently will not recognize a master-slave configuration. 5 other SATA devices are operating OK on XP, and a 5 1/4 floppy on a standard floppy...
