    E5700 overclocking advice

If you are not worried about damaging the PC you can be quite aggressive with the fsb and voltage adjustments. Set the fsb for 4.0 and then make sure your RAM isn't being blown away by it's OC. Give the north bridge a voltage bump and CPU a couple more and see if it'll boot. If you want to...

    8gb vs 16gb for gaming

That's kind of what I was thinking, but once the wallet opens up for an upgrade it tends to get out of hand. Thanks guys

    8gb vs 16gb for gaming

Any real advantage of having 16gb of ram over 8gb? Generally its only the game and background stuff like antivirus going on.

    Dual Monitor Dual GPU

I have an extra monitor and a nVidia 8800gt laying around, my current gaming rig has a GTX 460 in it and I'm planning on running dual monitors. Would it be better to run both monitors off the GTX 460 and use the 8800gt as a physx card or run one monitor per card? The screens are different...

PCIE 1.0 compatibility with PCIE 2.1

A pcie 2.1 card in a 1.x slot is a bit unreliable. It would be much better to use a 2.0 card. I currently have an asus gtx 460 plugged into my asus p5k se and have had no issues with pcie differences.

    Core 2 Duo Overclocking

If you drop the 667 ram, you should be able to get a decent OC on the CPU. Depending on what you do with the PC that could either be beneficial or not change things much. What do you expect to happen?

    Real World Gains

Since you don't game or encode video it'd be hard to find a situation where 3.8 vs 4.1 will be felt in any meaningful way. Like "I cut 5 min off the encode job" or "I just upped the min framerate by 5 fps". If you don't have an SSD already, you should get one. For an improvement in user...

    Scratches on heatsink from cleaning

I know someone who swears by lapping will disagree with me, but the purpose of TIM is to fill imperfections. And unless you really require a mirror finish (pre-install, which is trashed when you press it against anything with force and abrasive) to fulfill your ego, its not worth the trouble...

    Core 2 Duo Overclocking

Your RAM is really going to be a limiting factor. Right out of the gate you'll be over clocking it just to get a higher fsb. There is no way to tell what your max OC will be without trying. More specs would help us, but your RAM will be the limiting factor. That I know for sure.

    First time OCing s PC

I ignore SLI/Crossfire for the most part. It's generally better to have one powerful card over 2 weaker cards. Even if you can get more raw power with the 2 weaker cards, you have to deal with micro stutter and whatnot. I would only consider SLI/Crossfire if you can afford 2 of the best or...

    First time OCing s PC

From an OC perspective, the PII 980 is really close to the max frequency you can get out of those chips. It'd be smarter to save some money and drop down to something like a PII 955 or a PII 960T. The chips will max out at roughly the same frequency, it's more about luck of getting a good...
