Same problem here! Probably more bizarre. I have two dell monitors: an old U2412M with only DP in, a new U2717D with DP in and out. Monitors are driven by a GTX 1060 with 3 DP ports. I love the locking mechanism of DP cables (for the exact reasons i hate HDMI) as well as the daisy chain...
