    Wise words. I've already substituted the 5200mAh battery with a 8800mAh one. The CPU upgrade is not essential, so long as the SSD will give the required increase in startup and application speed. I was just considering the CPU upgrade as other slightly faster units aren't overly expensive - now.

    I think it's integral. I believe if I try to remove the end, the whole board will come off exposing the discs. It doesn't look like an end cap.
