News Meta plans multi-GW data center that's nearly the size of Manhattan — Zuckerberg promises enormous AI splash as company uses 'tents' to try and kee...

I think Meta has a good idea. If I ever get a 5090 I'm going to setup my computer outside in a tent too, so I won't burn my house down if the cable melts. 😁

News Not to be outdone by ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot humiliates itself in Atari 2600 chess showdown — another AI humbled by 1970s tech despite trash talk

The free Copilot lets me upload 10kb of text in my prompts. While (paid) GitHub Copilot will look through at least 500kb of text. I wonder how Copilot would have done if it wasn't just prompted to play chess, but given summaries of how to play, and the rules. To remind it. I also wonder how...

News Western Digital's $500,000 million penalty for patent infringement reduced to a mere $1 — court says recipient failed to 'adequately tie a dollar a...

Interesting. But the story doesn't answer what everyone should be wondering. Was the patent infringement legitimate? Or was the original court case filed in West Texas by patent trolls?

News Lawmakers demand answers from Nvidia over suspected GPU diversions to China, Nvidia denies any wrongdoing

Wouldn't it be great if the government took over control of GPU production? Then nothing would be sent to China. Russia would get what they need. Every state could contribute to the program. We'd have 16gb 5060 ti's for $2000. 😃

News Pristine' RTX 4090 returned to eBay seller with GPU and VRAM chips missing

I sold my Oculus Rift DK2 on eBay a couple months before the new version came out. Somehow it sold for 20% less than I paid for it new, to a bidder in China. He agreed to pay the extra shipping (it was a lot), and I mailed it. Weeks later it finally got delivered to him, I got paid, and I never...

News Intel enforces strict tariff compliance for steel and aluminum shipments amid new U.S. tariffs

Is this almost as much of a hassle for business as the EU Supply Chain Act? Which requires European companies to ensure human rights and environmental standards throughout their global supply chains, potentially leading to civil liability and fines for non-compliance.

News China's rare earth export restrictions threaten global chipmaking supply chains

But how many years will it take miners in friendly countries to complete all of their environmental assessments, regulatory approvals, and defeat legal challenges from locals upset about increased traffic? 🤔

News Bill Gates says Intel has lost its way, hints that 'brave' Pat Gelsinger exited too soon

Microsoft tried with their Windows phone. They even bought Nokia. But their OS was missing a lot of the apps Android and iOS had. Intel also tried to profit from phones, they had a mobile processor out for a year or two before giving up. I think Asus had it in their original Zenfone.

News Intel's CHIPS Act funding restricts the sale of foundry buisness — company has to maintain majority share if it spins off manufacturing unit

Does this mean Intel gets paid the grant money right now? Or will they get the money some time after going bankrupt? 🤔

News Gorilla Glass maker Corning is set to receive $32 million under the CHIPS and Science Act

Doritos should absolutely get CHIPS money. I don't want the Chinese making my Doritos and cutting off the supply during a trade war. Or worse, replacing my beloved Sweet Chili Heat flavor with something weird like Green Tea. 😮
