Black screen - dead motherboard or GPU?

There we have the culprit. There's a slot (the one closer to the CPU) that, if occupied, will not allow anything to start and the system will not POST. Right now, everything actually works great with a single 8GB stick on the second slot. You were right, electro_neanderthal. Thank you!

Black screen - dead motherboard or GPU?

Update: Reseated RAM and GPU - no difference. Cleared CMOS - no difference. PC was not that dusty - nowhere near to start thermal throttling. Not sure if PC is still under warranty, as this was bought about 15 months ago. I'll check. I'll try one RAM stick.

However, the difference...

So did I just accidentally discover a way to make any "2-way SLI/Crossfire" mobo work with 3 or 4 cards?

3 or even 4 GPUs on mobo that only supports two?

Good day, I have read the entire manual for the GA-990FXA-UD3 v.4.0, and I have asked many competent people about this, and searched overclocking and gaming forums, but to no avail. I normally run two R9 290X video cards directly attached to both PCI 2.0 x16 slots (so, PCIEX16_1 and...

    How do I make 2 kits of 8GB 1866 Mhz Kingston DDR3 RAM work with a Gigabyte GA-990-FXA v.4?

I have the latest BIOS drivers, latest drivers for my CPU, GPU, etc, and I am operating on Windows 7 64 bits, Ultimate. My CPU is an AMD FX-6300, which I was previously overclocking to about 4.1-4.4Ghz. Old, stable settings: 2 sticks of Kingston HyperX Fury 1866 Mhz RAM, 4 GB each, 10-11-10-30...
