Could detach a Intel Stock cooler and reattach it would out applying any more thermal paste?

I have i7 2600k in my old computer and i have a zoostorm 7877-0095. I know i can move it, i asked my brother and he said my new computers processor is 3.0 and my old one is 2.0, so changing it over would be pointless. Would it? Information Old i7 2600k 3.4GHZ New i5 3330 3.0GHZ
