what laptop is it ? most laptops have clip(or 2) on the back rear of the laptop where you can slide the battery off and on. If its new it should be under warranty why not give your dealer a call. char!

have you tried taking out your battery and making sure it is fitted correctly, and there is no damage to the battery pack? Char!

check your vga/dvi/hdmi/etc cable and ensure it inserted into the correct port correctly. if still nothing, try a replacement lead to ensure your lead is not faulty. you can also try - Windows key + P, which will change the display settings to computer only. also make sure your PC is on :D char!

Well PS3 and Xbox 360 are very similar when it comes to graphics (maybe ps3 a tad better) but it would depend on the connection you would use like hdmi or scart. I would rather ask yourself what games your interested in or price differences of the consoles and games. Char!
