Best Graphics Cards for the Money (Archive)

I'm a GTX 980 Ti owner, and I agree. The article has it backwards. From TomsHardware's own tests, the Fury X generates 35.6 dB(A) of noise, while the reference GTX 980 Ti 44.6 dB(A), or 39.7 dB(A) inside a closed case. With respect to temperatures, the reference GTX 980 Ti stays at 83 C, while...

System Builder Marathon Q1 2016: Value Comparison

But for gaming, what users care about is playability, not the highest benchmark score. Haswell and Skylake will push higher framerates than Kaveri and Vishera, but the difference between say, 65 and 110 fps, won't be visible on a 60 Hz screen. And a lot of games are perfectly playable in the...

System Builder Marathon Q4 2015: $912 AMD LAN Box PC

I think the 860K is more competitive against Intel's Pentium CPUs, which are in the same price range and only has two cores without HT. Some games won't even start with less than four cores, which is where the 860K has a real advantage. For gaming, whether the game is playable might be a...

System Builder Marathon Q3 2015: AMD Mini PC

That's no longer true, though. Check out http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Windows-10-Home/productID.319937100 - you can click the USB option and get Windows on a flash drive directly. No second computer needed. Also, how many people here have no access to another PC? PCs...

    Four LGA-1150 Motherboards Under $60

I wonder how far an i7-4790K could be pushed on one of these boards. Maybe you could get a mild overclock with an AIO water cooler, and a fan aimed at the VRMs.

EVGA Cools GTX 980 With Hybrid Closed-Loop Water Cooler

It better be extremely quiet, or it'll make no sense. Existing air coolers have no problem cooling the 980 without being too loud. Water cooling also doesn't make setup any easier (unlike CPUs, where installing big tower coolers can be messy).

New Multi-Windows Feature Could Increase Android's Appeal On PCs

synphul - I'm guessing it'll have windowing capability on par with Windows 1.0 (tiled windows) or maybe 2.0 (overlapping windows). The big question is how it'll hold up when Windows 95 comes out.

System Builder Marathon Q1 2015: System Value Compared

I'd like to see more AMD too, but right now AMD has nothing against Intel's high end CPUs especially when it comes to single threaded performance. And single threaded performance matters for a lot of the benchmarks here. Their graphics cards can be good value (there's a R9 280 in the $700 PC)...

Rumor: Steam Machines Launching At GDC 2015

I'm part of the crowd that can't see the argument for a steam machine. If you're into PC gaming, you can save money by building one PC that handles both gaming and work. If you want to use a controller, there are controllers (i.e. Xbox One) that work with Windows. And if you want access to as...
