    [SOLVED] DDR3 and +5V

Thanks for looking into this Eximo. Really appreciate it! I thought jonnyguru sounded familiar. I used to read his PSU recommendations years back...must have been over decade ago now. Always appreciated his solid PSU reviews. I understand my homelab hardware (Ivy Bridge, DDR3...etc) came...

    [SOLVED] DDR3 and +5V

That makes sense. Rats! According to that PSU Calculator, configuring either DDR3 or DDR4 affected only +5V rail, not +12V rail. So maybe that tool is correct after all? I was hoping to to get a more definitive answer here, but so far it's 50/50. Both you and Eximo seem like very seasoned...

    [SOLVED] DDR3 and +5V

Thank you Eximo. I was googling which PSU rail powered DDR3 and my results were inconclusive. If they are indeed powered from +12V, then I'd feel much better. Even EVGA's most powerful PSU has 24A on the +5V. I guess that PSU calculator I used is just wrong -- adding/removing DDR3 only...

    [SOLVED] DDR3 and +5V

I am building a home lab. While spec'ing out the power supply on outervision, one thing caught my eye... 28.5 A on +5V! After playing with my config, most of that +5V is coming from the 128GB DDR3 memory. Is DDR3 really powered from the +5V rail, or am I reading that wrong? I was considering...

    unRAID

Do you mind listing your AMD system specs? I also have an outdated AMD system that I can recycle. Do you happen to know when lime-tech will upgrade to the latest stable kernel (2.6)? Also, any mention of iSCSI support? That is one feature supported by openfiler that I would be very...

    unRAID

Thanks for the info, especially the bit about upgrading from 2.4 soon. Also, if only data drives count towards the license, does that mean I can have 12 data drives plus 1 parity drive under the Pro license? I wonder if Tom would benchmark unRAID against other NAS? Something else I'm...

    unRAID

Thanks. I'll check into Matrix raid and see what that's about. One thing I'm not too crazy about unRAID is they are currently based on linux kernel 2.4 I believe. They seem somewhat restricted on hardware requirements. Fortunately, I believe my spare parts qualify. Also, they have some...

    unRAID

I would love to code if I knew how. I'm looking at building my nas within the next couple of weeks so is it realistic for a novice coder like myself to accomplish what unRAID does? I've already looked at freenas and naslite but they seem to stick to popular RAID technology already on the...

    unRAID

Anything else out there that is similar to unRAID? I'm ready to build a DIY NAS with several existing drives ranging from 120GB to 250GB, IDE and SATA and plan to purhase additional 500GB SATA. I would like to utilize most of the combined storage space (i.e., JBOD) with redundancy and ease of...
