    Windows 2000, Atheros ar5211.sys, and AR5005G chipset

    Just a thought - have you installed the Atheros Client Utility (is that what you mean by the Launch Manager tool)? This might know how to enable the card, even if Windows doesn't. Available here: http://www.station-drivers.com/page/atheros.htm
