The laptop has been working without the battery for months, running straight from the charger.

It never got overly hot, not that I noticed anyway. And yes, it is Completely Dead atm. I had a spare charger and tried that too, as well as a few different wall sockets, so think the problem can be isolated to the laptop. Somewhere.

No. But there was a little fizzle, maybe a spark or maybe something in the fan, when it worked and I would move it. Or if I was doing anything demanding, like editing a video. Thanks for the reply
