Sorry, voiding the warranty is definately a deal breaker. A brand-new premium top of the line product should not need a modification. And the gains weren't that impressive anyway.

The on-board audio codec on your mobo should be fine for those speakers (which use 3.5 mm analog connectors, I believe). I wouldn't buy an upgraded soundcard unless you are willing to also invest in higher end speakers/headphones as well. You just won't hear an improvement.

That's a great price on that 7870 XT Tahiti. Definate bang for buck champion. Be advised that 7870 GHZ card is the Pitcarn based gpu and the Powercolor Myst 7870 is based on the same Tahiti gpu as the 7950/7970. $10 savings makes it a no-brainer.
