News YouTuber Upgrades Raspberry Pi 4 to 16GB of RAM

Internally, VideoCore GPU can address 16GB according to Eben Upton. Whether the controller can physically address it is about to be found out.

News YouTuber Upgrades Lowest Spec Raspberry Pi 4 to 8GB of RAM

Hi, I was thinking about the same upgrade, because RPI4 BCM chip is said to have 16GB physical address space (Eben Upton's claim). I can only suggest to contant manufacturer directly and ask for samples. Should suffice for a test. Micron Sample center...

News Maker Creates DIY Raspberry Pi Pico GPIO Ethernet Connection

Adding to a great reply from Charles: the main reason why is twisted pair ethernet so ubiquitous and successfull is mainly its galvanic isolation. Even car automakers are pushing it for car cameras as a solution, what's why single-pair ethernet was born. HDMI, for example, doesn't have DC...

Review LG DualUp 28MQ780 Monitor Review: A Unique New Display Shape

Good point! The examples there are good. But one of them looks better (less pixellated sloped edge of an object) without correction than with it on some of my monitors. But at this magnification, even correctly antialised lines are pixellated.

Review LG DualUp 28MQ780 Monitor Review: A Unique New Display Shape

I think it depends on the distance at which one ceases to perceive individual pixels. Unfortunately, even antialiased lines with visible pixels are... jagged. The thinnest line that's not jagged with antialiasing is some 1.3 - 1.5 pixels wide. This ensures, that it's always over 1 pixel wide...

Review LG DualUp 28MQ780 Monitor Review: A Unique New Display Shape

That's because I prefer very sharp outlines of text. I have disabled font upscaling for all apps. It can display two A4 pages at once, almost at its natural size - great for browsing downloaded pdfs. Reading sharp text without seeing subpixels is more preferred than letting subpixels annoy me...

Review LG DualUp 28MQ780 Monitor Review: A Unique New Display Shape

My 4k monitor from the past has cost me 1800USD (has been introduced at 8000USD price) some 15 years ago If I remember correctly. It has paid for itself because of my saved time. I was more productive long before 4k became just even available for purchase in mass quantities. But I use it for CAD...

Review LG DualUp 28MQ780 Monitor Review: A Unique New Display Shape

My question is - how well does it work with Raspberry Pi 4 ? Are two HDMI outputs needed, or does it run with only one (it should)? Are there any problems like EDID information incompatibility, does it run out of the box etc. I think this would be a good monitor for coding - fitting most of...

News U.S. Senators Propose 25% Tax Credits for Domestic Chipmakers

I agree. We even have inter-state limits on the production of some essential items, like food production etc. EU is a confederation of wildly different states, some are so strong that they could wipe the weaker ones economically in a year - just by trading without protection for the poor...

News U.S. Senators Propose 25% Tax Credits for Domestic Chipmakers

We (outside the US) got it a long time ago. The US is exporting free trade soup, but only if it is in favour of US business, not vice versa. Any state that relies on critical technology from overseas is at the mercy of some other entity. From money (not creating its own money), to IT, to...

Review Akasa Maze Pro Raspberry Pi Case Review: Unique Design, Passive Cooling

The USB3.0 bridge can get hot with long transfers, leading to throttling on its own. The memory chip is relatively cool. Tested with a thermal camera.

News Noctua's Colossal NH-P1 Passive Heatsink Arrives For $100

But the amount of air is definitely lower for heatsinks with large area than for the small ones with a fan. Less airflow also means less dust. Even a big heatsink without some airflow is not effective. So, to get the desired cooling effect (at 0dB), a case need to be constructed as semi-open...

News Micron Ships First 1-Alpha DRAM: Extreme Density Without EUV

Will it be rowhammer resilient? The last time, the memory chips from Micron suffered of it more than from other manufacturers, if I remember correctly. The memory cells were too dense. Correct me if I'm wrong.
