Same boat here. Tried older drivers, no luck. Think we're stuck waiting for a newer driver at this point.

I think for the most part with more expensive boards you are paying for extra features they have vs what comes on a less expensive board. To some extent they sometimes do have higher quality components on the board as well which would lead to durability/reliability.

You can keep your original drive how it is. Just make sure to install windows onto the SSD and make sure it is set to boot first in the bios. Otherwise you can still boot to your old drive if it is set first.

Have you tried doing the actualy HP recovery instead of the Windows 8 Refresh/Restore? Usually on newer HP's if you hit F11 at POST it will go into the HP recovery program.

Looks like the manual has a picture of slots 2 and 4 being filled if you only have 2 sticks of RAM. I don't think it really matters in the end though.

My first guess would have been the hard drive as well, but since you are having issues getting things to install on the 2nd hard drive there may be something else going on. I have had issues before that looked like a hard drive but ended up being defective ram. If you can try to run a memory...

The SOYO board does not support anything higher then 533 front side bus. If your p4 2.4ghz processor is 800 mhz front side bus it will not work in that motherboard. Judging by the fact that when you tried puting the 2.4ghz processor in the Soyo board and it would not POST I'm betting it is not...

Sounds like the old hard drive was partitioned into 2 logical drives originally. Just delete the 2 partitions and make 1 partition that uses the entire disk. Make sure there is nothing important on it, since re-partitioning the drive will erase all data.

I believe the Intel controlled ports will be a little bit faster so at least plug the hard drive into those. You might as well plug the optical drive into them as well since it sounds like you only have those 2 devices. If you are plugging in multiple hard drives I would try to plug them all...

Did you just install the motherboard? Is it on the proper risers and not shorting out underneath? Also some motherboards have a jumper that resets the cmos and a lot of motherboards will not turn on if the jumper is set on those pins.

I would recommend Bitdefender free or Avast free. Also, they work well for virus's, but malware is a whole other story. I would try Malwarebytes for that side of things. The premium for $24/year is definitely worth it.
